William Ware, billiards room proprietor, and Richard Wilfred Williams, marker, were arrested at Arapuni last week on gaming charges. Accused were released on bail amounting to £IOO, pending the hearing of the charges in the Putaruru Court on July 26. The many friends of Mr. W. H. Barnett, one of the district’s earliest settlers, will be pleased to learn that an operation he recently underwent for the removal of cataracts from the eyes was completely successful and that he can now see to read a paper for the first time in 16 years.

Speaking cf subsidies, at Saturday evening’s Morrinsville Farmers’ Union smoke concert, Captain Col beck said he disapproved of thi3 method of finance, as someone else had to pay. He would oppose a subsidy being given to a farmer. The farmer had no to it. If he could not run his business . without State assistance then let it go down. No one could prove to him that subsidies were of benefit to anyone.
