OBITUARY. Mr. Hamilton Andrews Moore. Mr. Hamilton Andrews Moore, who died at Tirau on June 23, in his 92 year, was the son of the late Rev. W. Gurden Moore, M.A., rector of Aslacby, a parish in Lincolnshire (England). It was here that Mr. Moore was born, about one month before the late Queen Victoria came to the throne. He had an extensive education at King’s College (London), and later in France and Germany. At the age of 17 Mr. Moore decided to come to New Zealand. After a six months’ voyage in the ship Norman Morrison he landed at Wellington in the year 1854. It was his original intention to settle in the South Island, but, after being shipwrecked in attempting to cross Cook Strati, he returned to Wellington, and a little later took up land in the Wairarapa district. Soon after this he went further north to the Manawatu and Rangitikei districts, where he spent by far the greater part of his life. For many years he was a lieutenant in the Alfred troop of the Rangitikei Cavalry, which saw a good deal of service in the Maori wars. About nine years ago Mr. Moore came to Cambridge to live, but at the time of his death he was staying with his granddaughter, Mrs. Guy Seton, of Tirau. His wife predeceased him by about 30 years, and his only son died in Trentham Camp in 1918. He is survived by his four daughters, Mrs. R. M. Pemberton, of Tirau, Mrs. A. Mason, of Epsom, and the Misses Emily and Evelyn Moore, and leaves six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Tennis Club Dance. The Tirau Tennis Club held its annual dance on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance. The hall was prettily decorated with the club’s colours, and a very enjoyable night was spent. On behalf of the Waikato East Lawn Tennis Association, the president, Mr. J. Keane, called upon Mr. E. Neil (captain) to receive the cup won by the Tirau B team and presented by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. Mr. Neil suitably responded. Other''winners to receive trophies were : Men’s singles championship, Mr. E. Brown; men’s doubles, Messrs. E. and A. Brown; ladies’ singles, Mrs. A. Bonney; ladies’ doubles, Misses ITetherington and Stewart; Oxford Cup (for mixed doubles), (presented by Mrs. J. Bear), was won by Mr. H. Selby and Mrs. Bonney. Miss Mathieson’s orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Mrs. Bishop. Mr. S. Sarah was M.C. Card Tourney. * A 500 tournament was given *at the residence of Mrs. W. D. Fraser, about thirty guests enjoying a very nice evening. Interspersed were vocal items by Miss McKenstry and Mr. Brabyn. Piano and violin solos, were played by Mrs. Bishop and Mrs. Litchfield. The winners of the prizes were as follows: Ladies, Miss Dagg; booby, Miss Fitzgerald. Men’s, Mr. Cooke; booby, Mr. J. Stewart. Personal. Mr. P. May, of Panmure, is at present visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs T. Marshall. Mrs. N. Litchfield, of Waiuku, is on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Stewart. Miss Cowan is spending her holidays in Fielding.
