LADIES’ GUILD. Annual Meeting. The third annual meeting of the Putaruru Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was marked by a keenness and quiet enthusiasm which augurs well for the future. The report for the year showed that a good year’s work had been accomplished. Despite the fact that five members had left the district, the membership remained the same, as five new members were enrolled during the year, the, financial roll now
totalling 13. During the year eleven community sings were held, and the proceeds from these amounted to £ll 6s Id. Special thanks were accorded Miss Wheeler for acting as organist, the Rev. Brabyn for coming from Tirau to conduct, and to Mr. Tong, who took the former’s place in her absence. The Guild had presented an ivory bound Bible to the bride on the occasion of the first wedding to be celebrated in the church, while a “ bring and buy ” fair and several socials had been successfully organised. Election of Officers. Miss Runciman, who had done good work as secretary, tendered her resignation on account of ill-health, while Mrs. Begbie asked to be relieved of the office of president for a term. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officials. Officers for the coming year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs. W. P. Benton; vice-president, Mrs. J. Gowith; secretary and treasurer, Mrs N. Gibson. Finances. The financial statement showed that the total receipts for the year amounted to £76 5s lid, and expenses £73 13s 9d, leaving a balance of £2 12s 2d. Of the expenses a sum of £6O 15s was given to the management committee of the church to pay for the seating accommodation.
