Apropos last Wednesday’s gale at Te Aroha, the News states: “Perhaps the biggest misfortune was that which befell a woman from Morrinsville, who, encountering the full force of a terrific gust at the Palace Hotel comer, had her hand-bag ripped open and two five pound notes and one pound’s worth of silver blown out to the mercy of the wind. The notes disappeared in the darkness and the wind rolled the silver in all directions. On Thursday morning 5s in silver was recovered on one side of the road and 2s 6d on the other, but the rest had disappeared completely.”
