BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME. To Embracs the Town. With a view to getting a comprehensive scheme drawn up which would cover the whole town, the Putaruru Beautifying Society decided to obtain the services of a recognised expert, who would submit a plan to tiffs end. The Auckland City Council were approached to see if the services of the Superintendent of Parks (Mr. Pearson) were available, but a reply has been received that it is contrary to the policy of the council to accede to such requests. Though the reply is somewhat disappointing it will not be allowed to affect the Society’s programme in any way, and in all probability Mr. D. Mitchell, of Hamilton, will be asked to visit Putaruru and submit a scheme. Mr. Mitchell has done good work in this line and was solely responsible for the design and layout of the Soldiers’ Memorial Park at Hamilton.
The advantages of having a definite scheme are too obvious to enumerate, for not only will, it assist in promoting a civic pride, but it is by far the most economical method of procedure.
Already many residents of the town are showing keen interest in the society, several having offered to provide trees for their frontages, and it is anticipated that once work is commenced, good support will be accorded. It is hoped that an early start will bo made and quite a lot of work done before next summer.
