SPRING SUSPENSION.

1 A Canadian engineer, S. L. C. Cole Xnan, of Fredericton, N. 8., claims that the last obstacle in motor car namely, spring suspension, has been overcome. The new idevice, which has been christened "the hammock spring suspension,” Jkmsists of a combination of transand longitudinal leaf springs, the former carrying the weight and the latter stabilising the vehicle. The frame is pivotally connected *0 the transverse springs at the front *nd rear, hence the name “ hammock

suspension.” The inventor claims for his device the following advantages: Elimination of all weaving stresses in the frame and body, double flexibility under one wheel shock, great reduction in side sway and rolling, making for greater safety on the roads at high speed. Because of the peculiar manner in which the transverse springs are mounted . at an angle o/erbounding and after-bound-ing are so greatly reduced that no rebound checks are required. The springs are mounted on rubber conj nections which, in addition to the j fact that no lubrication is required, serve the useful purpose of eliminating the high frequency vibration.
