BRIDGE OVER TWEED.
OPENED BY PRINCE. Old Border Feuds Recalled. When the Prince of Wales opened the Royal Tweed Bridge at Berwick, he said: “1 hope everyone who uses this bridge whether southward bound or northward; bound, will have a prosperous journey.*' The Prince sai.d the erection of bridges over the Tweed had become almost a necessary habit, but goot/ Englishmen and good Scotsmen were equal'y to biame for burning them down in the olden, turbulent border days. The old bridge which had endured since Janies I. was King of Englantl and Scotland, would remain, but the vast increase of motor traffic necessitaUrl a newer and; bigger link between the two countries. The bridge cost £1(50 000. It is the longest highway bridge in the kingdom.
