TOKOROA.
Rabbit Board. The usual monthly meeting of the Tokoroa Rabbit Board was held on Monday and was attended by Messrs. L. J. G. Hamilton (chairman), J. Campbell, D. C. Rollett, E. W. R. Leslie and J. R. O. Lochhead (secretary). Finance.—The treasurer reported that the bank balance stood at £214 12s 6d. Accounts totalling £46 15s 7d were passed for payment. Boundary Troubles. —The inspector reported that despite the fact that for the past month a man had been employed whose sole work was to lay poison along the board’s boundary on the back Lichfield-Waotu road rabbits in this area were multiplying fast on adjoining properties and their rapid increase could not be coped with. After some discussion it was decided that while the board was reluctant to institute proceedings something drastic would have to be done. It was decided in the meantime that the secretary write to the property owners concerned and warn them of their responsibility.
Poison Dangers. —As showing the dangers involved in laying poison, and the length of time which poison lasted in the open, it was reported that several head of stock had died through eating poisoned pollard laid by the board’s employees. The poison had been laid in the form of pollard pellets, and stock had been kept off the areas covered for a period of a month. At the end of that time the stock had been returned, and, though no fresh poison had been laid in the meantime, several beasts had been lost through chewing a few odd pellets which had been left. Anglican Parishioners’ Meeting.
A meeting of members of the Anglican Church was held in the Tokoroa Hall, the vicar, Rev. S. A. Wareing, presiding. There was a moderate attendance, but nevertheless a fairly enthusiastic tone prevailed throughout. Officials were elected as follow : Vicar’s warden, Mr. L. McHale , secretary, Miss Ray ; committee, Mesdames Walsh senior, Fryer, Sloper, Dykes, Miss Surman, Messrs. W. Walsh junior and Dykes (with power to add). . It was decided to run a series ot socials in aid of parish funds. General. The Tokoroa district is looking extremely well and has not got that hungry look which has been in evidence at times at this period of the year in the past. Pastures are looking well, there is an abundance of feed, and the stock are in good condition. . . Patching work and metalling is be.ing carried out on the Putaruru- < Tokoroa road and the worst parts on «this stretch have been attended to. A good stretch has been metalled near the school, and on the whole the road is now in good condition.
