PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.
81-MONTHLY MEETING. The following commissioners attended the usual bi-monthly meeting of the above board, which was held on Monday: Messrs. G. G. Griffiths (chairman), W. Yandle, C. C. Neal, A. E. Barr Brown, H. W. Lindsay, J. C. Tomalin and K. McDermott.
Hospital Levy. In reply to representations made by the board that hospital levies should be a charge on the Consolidated FYind, Mr. Hockly wrote stating that there was a considerable body of opinion in the Dominion against the proposal. He thought that a reasonable compromise would be for the Consolidated F'und to bear the whole cost of new buildings, and the present subsidies continued for maintenance and upkeep. It was decided to thank Mr. Hockly for his reply.
New Footpath. Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead wrote confirming his verbal arrangement made with the clerk of works in regard to earthwork encroaching on his property. It was explained that Mr. Lochhead had planted some trees inside
his boundary fence, and these might possibly be damaged by the batter of the new footpath. Town Planning. Messrs. J. C. Tomalin, A. E. Barr Brown and the chairman were appointed a sub-committee to report on suggestions for the town-planning map. Permits. The following building permits were authorised: Mrs. Bhana, £1 10s; J. S. Reid, £5; Mr. R. A. Bent, £25; Messrs. Flyger and Johnson, £I3OO and £1400; Mr. C. C. Neal, £1 10s; J. A. Ranger, £SOO.
While permits were being considered Mr. Lindsay said he thought it inadvisable that any more septic tanks should be allowed in Princes street. Those at present installed v;ere not working satisfactorily, and one recently erected had not been put in by a registered plumber as required by law. It was explained that so long as the Health Department approved of them th? board had no option. In theory they were perfect, but it did not always pan out that way in practice. Mr. Yandle held that the board should insist that the by-law be adhered to in respect to no barbed wire being allowed near a footpath. This was unanimously agreed to. Itinerant Trader. The clerk reported that after some correspondence a casual trader had sent his cheque for £5 but it had been dishonoured. The matter was now in the hands of the board’s solicitors. Outstanding Rates. The board’s solicitors forwarded a further cheque for £23 14s 2d, being rates collected from arrears of the year 1926-27.
