MIDNIGHT FIRE.

IN MAIN STREET. A fire occurred on Monday morning at about 2 o’clock in the wfiare owned by Mr. H. Mitten at the back of his shop in Main street. Mr. Mitten, who was sleeping in the shop, was awakened by the glare, and at that time the fire had a good hold. Mr. Mitten aroused his neighbour, Mr. Pirie, and both devoted their energies to preventing the fire from spreading to other outbuildings and to Yandle’s block on the corner. In this they were successful, hut the whare and its contents were totally destroyed. The damage ’.one is estimated to he in the vies i.y of £3O and is partly covered l insurance. It is thought the fire started from sparks from dying embers in a stove.
