TIRAU.
The Church of England Ladies’ Guild held a very successful five hundred evening on Thursday which was well attended. Cards were indulged in and enjoyed by all until 10.30, when supper was handed round, after which dancing was carried on until 12 o’clock. Music for the dancing was kindly supplied by Mrs. Bishop (piano) and Bert Bragg (cornet). Mr. Coubrough was M.C. The winners of the card prizes were as follow : Lady’s first, Mrs. Callaghan; gentleman’s first, Mr. Selby; lady’s booby, Mrs. Strickland ; gentleman’s booby, Mr. Withers. Railway Official Departs. Mr. W. Roberts, who has been officer in charge of the Tirau railway station, has been transferred to Cambridge. During Mr. Roberts’ period of over three years’ service at Tirau he has been an obliging and courteous official and the residents regret his departure. A farewell and presentation function was held yesterday morning. Personal. Mr. A. Gray has returned from a month’s holiday. Mr. A. Parcoe has returned from annual leave and has resumed his duties at the local post office. Mr. E. M. Grace, who has been on the office staff of the Matamata County Council for over a year, has resigned to take up a position with the National Electric Company Ltd. in Hamilton.
