At the annual meeting of the Matamata County Council yesterday Cr. J. W.. Anderson was re-elected chairman for his sixteenth term.

If keenness counts then the Putaruru ladies’ hockey team ' - should make good. Seven members turned out for practice at 6.30 a.m. la?t Monday. A welcome addition to the postal service of Putaruru is the erection of a pillar box at Beca’s corner. Cleared four times daily, the box serves a compact business area in Prince? apd adjoining streets. It is stated that Mr. A. J. Whiteside, of Thames, wall again contest the Thames seat at the next election in the Liberal interests. Mr. Whiteside stood at the last election, when he came last, polling 210 votes. In the 1922 election he polled 72 votes.
