TATJRANGA MEETING. A unique offer is being made by ihe Bay of Plenty Jockey Club (Taulanga) in connection with its meeting 1 ext Saturday. To celebrate the first special train to run to the meeting the club has decided to admit all passengers who produce their return half ticket to the races free. The coming meeting should be easily the most successful yet held on the Coast ar.d the tram arrangements will allow many who have never visited Tauranga to enjoy the salubrious climate for a day. There should be many tfpom Waikato - and these enjoy the Coast's wellknowni\hosj>itality, apart from the racing.;? Fields iieviewed. The Tauranga meeting, to be held on Saturday, has drawn larger nominations than is usual for the Coast, the inauguration of the train service no doubt being mainly the cause of this. There will be a number of maidens starting in some of the events, so that the speculation will take a wide range.
Proceedings will open with the Trial Plate, in which the public will probably choose Te W aka, Ked Day and Glad Abbey. Te Waka ran a good race at Te Aroha, whilst Red Day has been in long enough now to show a little of its wor th.
Queen Comet is not overburdened with weight in the Maunganui Handicap and has been running forward. This mare will probably carry most money, with Partial Eclipse and Taurimu next in request.
On performances Alonsoa should be the public’s choice for the Cup. The Lover, if started, should go well, whilst Rarakau will also carry a lot of money.
The tote will probably indicate Taurimu as a good tiling for the Herries' Memorial Handicap, and nothing would please Mr. McNicol more than to win this race. The late donor and Mr. McNicol were neighbours for many years, both breeding good horses.
Miss Egypt, with 7.3, has her chance in the Greerton Hack Handicap, of seven furlongs, but it is an open race. The machine will also indicate that Matinee and New Moon have a chance. This is the latter’s pet distance.
The President .Hack and the County Stakes will provide a second chance for some of those in the Trial, and the public will no doubt use their judgment of the running in the first race.
Dave is given the position of honour in the Flying, and must run a good racf if started. Archeen is in form. Well lower .down the list are Dimmer and Whaka King. Both are hacks, but the public will no doubt give them -chances. DRESS CIRCLE CASE. Two erstwhile Matamata residents were involved in what is known as •“ The Dress Circle scandal.” L. H. Wynyard, who was disqualified for life, was in residence here for many months about three years ago. The owner of Dress Circle, W. <l. Burnett, who was disqualified for three years, and fined £2O, -was previmrsly in business here as a builder.
