STOCK SALES.

WAIHOU. Prime fat lambs made 29s 6d, fat two-tooth sheep 265, cull ewes 8s 9d to 9s, good store lambs 15s to 15s 6d, medium lambs 11s to 13s 4d, small 8s 8d to 9s 3d. MORRINSVILLE.

There was a small yarding at Dalgety and Company’s sale at Morrinsville on Thursday and a poor attendance of buyers. This was no doubt due to the show on the previous day. Beef sold on a par with late rates, while store pigs were especially in demand. Prices were as follow:

Beef.—Fat Jersey cows £5 15s to £6 2s ; light fat Shorthorn cows to £6 12s ; Shorthorn heifers £4 10s to £5 5s ; forward-conditioned cows £3 10s to £4 5s ; store cows £1 10s to £2 5s ; Jersey heifers in calf £6 5s to £6 10s ; small Jersey heifer calves £2 15s ; bulls £3 ss. Sheep.—Shorn store lambs 14s 6d ; cull ewes 10s ; B.L. rams up to £3 3s. Pigs.—Good stores £1 7s ; small slips 18s to 21s ; weaners 3s to 5s 6d. MATAMATA. On Wednesday the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company conducted its usual fortnightly sale. There was a good yarding of cattle. Fat and store cows showed a decided advance on prices of previous sales. There was a small yarding of sheep,, all being sold under fairly-keen competion. Prices were:— Cattle.—Prime fat heavy cows £8 to £9 2s 6d ; heavy fat cows £6 2s 6d to £7 4s ; medium-weight cows £5 8s to £5 15s ; light fat cows £5 to £5 5s ; forward-conditioned cows £4 6s to £4 16s ; fresh-conditioned cows £3 9s to £4 ; aged and poor-conditioned cows £2 Is to £2 15s.

Sheep.—Fat lambs 25s 6d ; good store lambs 14s 6d ; others 10s Id ; small weedy lambs 5s 6d ; soundmouth ewes, 12s 8d to 14s 7d. Pigs.—The yarding of pigs was probably the largest seen in Matamata, every pen being filled to the utmost capacity. Prices were : Heavy baconers £4 2s, £4 14s, medium sorts £3 12s, £3 16s, lighter £3 to £3 7s ; heavy porkers £2 18s to £3 6s ; light porkers £1 15s to £2 4s ; good stores 25s to 32s ; slips 13s to 18s ; weaners 5s to Bs. These prices are higher than Hamilton and Westfield late rates. FRANKTON. At the Frankton sale on Tuesday there was a full yarding, all classes being well represented. Fat cattle again advanced in value. Best cows made up to £9 10s, lighter weights £7 to £S ss; veal calves, £1 10s to £2 12s 6d; forward cows, from £? 10s to £5 ss; fresh 33-year bullocks sold under fair competition from £6 5s to £7 11s. The market for mutton showed a | brisk advance on recent rates, ewes | selling to 25s Id; lighter sheep, 20s to 225; forward ewes sold at from 10s 3d to 13s 3d. Breeding ewes were not much in demand. B.L. rams made 6gns. The advertised line of P.B. Lincoln ewes did not draw competition and were passed in.

The second “ marked calf ” sale held under the auspices of the New Zealand Herd - testing Association was fairly successful, the whole catalogue being quitted. Twenty-seven offered on behalf of Mr. J. Nicholson, of Okoroire, topped the list at £6 for the line. Mr. A. C. Andrews, of Onewhero, sold his offering at £5 10s. Mr. W. A. Wright, Horahora, £5 17s 6d. Pigs again advanced on late rates,

heavy baconers making £3 15s to £4 Ss; medium, £J 8s to £3 12s; light, £2 13s to £3 4s; heavy porkers, £2 10s to _ £i 15s; light, £1 12s to £2 2s; slipsJK 12s to 15s; weaners, 3s to Bs.

THE LONDON MARKET. The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated March 9, 1928, advising Smithfield delivered prices at that date as follow: N.Z. Wethers and Maidens.—Canterbury quality, selected brands, 561 b and under 7id, 571 b to 641 b 7d, 651 b to 721 b 52d ; other brands, 561 b and under 72d, 571 b to 641 b 6id, 651 b to 721 b s§d. N.Z. Lambs.—Canterbury quality, 361 b and under 9id, 371 b to 421 b 9id, 431 b to 501 b 9gd, seconds 9d ; selected brands, 36!b and under 9id, 371 b to 421 b 9Jd ; other brands : first quality, 361 b and under 9£d, 371 b to 421 b 93d ; second quality, 301 b to 321 b average 83d. Australian Lambs.—Victorian, first quality, 361 b and under BL*d. Argentine Lambs.—First quality, 361 b and under Bid, 371 b to 421 b 85d. N.Z. Beef.—Ox fores 3gd, ox hinds 43d, cow fores 31d, cow hinds 4d. Argentine Chilled Beef.—Ox fores 4id, ox hinds 6d.

Argentine Frozen Beef.—Ox fores 32d, ox hinds 51d.

Frozen Pork. Porkers, 601 bto 801 b 7id, 811 b to 991 b 6id, 1001 b to 1201 b 63d ; baconers, 1211 b to 1801 b 63d.

Lamb Market.—Prices easing as arrivals now heavier.

Mutton Market.—Firm with short stocks ; higher prices checking demand.

New Zealand Beef.—ln very slow demand ; stocks light. New Zealand Frozen Pork.—Bolb to 1201 b : Unchanged, market is slow. 1211 b to 1801 b : There has been a better demand for forward shipments. WEEKLY PRICES OF FAT STOCK FOR EXPORT. The New Zealand Meat Producers Board advises that the following prices were being offered for fat stock for export at March 10, 1928: Canterbury (prices delivered at works.) —Prime woolly lambs, 361 b and under lOd, 371 b to 421 b 9hd, 431 b and over 91 d ; second-quality lambs, 9d. SHIPMENTS OF MEAT FROM SOUTH AMERICA. The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has received a cable from its representative at Buenos Aires, South America, advising the following shipments to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ended March' 1, 1928, from Argentine and Uruguay : 234,731 quarters chilled beef, 6921 quarters frozen beef, 45,766 carcases frozen mutton, 85,878 carcases frozen lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the same period was as follows : 122,400 quarters frozen beef, S3lO carcases frozen mutton.

RETAIL PRICES OF N.Z. MEAT IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has been advised by its London manager that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton in London on March 2, 1928: Lamb (per pound). Legs 14d, shoulders 13d, loins 12d, necks Bd, breasts 6d. Wether Mutton (per pound).—Legs lOd, shoulders 9d, loins 9d, necks 7d, breasts 3d.
