A return supplied by the Thames Valley Electric Power Board to the Matamata County Council on Friday showed the average life of street lamps to be as follows: 1924 1925 1926 1927 Hrs. Hrs. Hrs. Hrs. Matamata 2086 1700 2012 1209 Morrinsville 1743 1416 1343 1017 Paeroa .. 1496 1862 1750 1780 The average life in hours was as follows:—Matamata 1664, Morrinsville 1276, Paeroa 1710. For other districts the average lamp life to date was given as follows: —Waihi, 910 hours; Putartfru, 15) 25 hours; Turua, 1285 hours; Tirau, 942 hours; Ngatea, 1460 hours. The lower lamp life in Waihi was stated to be partly due to the voltage regulation, and party due to the type of lamp. In Tirau and Putaruru regulation was the chief cause, and improvement might be expected this year and subsequently.
Cr. Judd: What about a claim for damages for not regulating the voltage properly? (Laughter). The engineer pointed out that a lamp opposite his house had continually failed owing to a loose screw. When this was fixed the globes did not fail.
Cr. Judd: Apart from that one lamp they are all right? The engineer: Yes. The chairman: There is an agitation for a source of supply from Matamata, and that may improve matters. The letter was received.
