DEPARTURE OF VICAR.
REV. WARD GOES TO KATAIA. Great regret was expressed by all classes when it became known in Putaruru that Rev. E. Ward, who has been vicar of the Anglican parish for the past three years, had decided to leave this district.
Mr. Ward, who has already received several offers of other parishes, was recently offered the charge at Kaitaia, which is one of the most important in Northland and is the most northerly parish in New Zealand. The Kaitaia parish also has historical associations, a mission station being opened there in 1833 by Revs. Matthews and Tuckey, many of whose descendants still reside in the district.
During his sojourn in Putaruru Mr. Ward has made many friends among all sections of the community by his breadth of opinion and wide sympathies.
At a special congregational meeting of members of St. Paul’s Church last Sunday a unanimous resolution was passed recording the great regret felt at Mr. Ward’s decision to leave, and also a hearty request asking him to reconsider his decision and to remain in Putaruru, We understand that Mr. Ward has definitely decided to accept the charge at Kaitaia and that his ministry in Putaruru will terminate on May 31 next.
