THAMES VALLEY POWER BOARD

FEBRUARY MEETING. The Thames Valley Power Board met on Tuesday, Mr. F. Strange presiding. Those present were: Messrs. F. E. Flatt, J. B. Thomas, J. Price, G. Howie, H. M. Corbett, W. E. G. Willy, H. R. Bush, J. Pohlen, J. W. McCormick, C. A. Arthur and J. W. Anderson. Charges on Motors. The agents of a firm which has recently put on the market a milking machine which requires only a half-horse-power motor for driving up to a 4-cow plant, and a one-horse-power motor for driving up to a 6cow plant, wrote that it seemed hardly fair that those farmers who used low-powered motors should be made to pay as much per year as those using a motor four times the size. “We would like you to do your best to fall into line with the other power boards and make a special rating for small motors,” stated the writer. The chairman said the mattef” of charges would have to be considered at the end of the financial year. On his motion the matter was deferred until that date. Secretaries’ Conference. Mr. Sprague was appointed to represent the board at the conference of Electric Power Board and Supply Authorities’ Association, to be held in Wellington on February 22 and 23. Holiday Reduction of Supply. The electrical branch of the Public Works Department forwarded a number of letters relative to the filling of Arapuni Lake and reduction of powei available from Horahora during the Christmas holidays. A lengthy report on the position was also submitted. Valuation Rolls. The Valuation Department wrote advising that in consequence of the revision of Piako and Oliinemuri counties’ valuations, the figures appearing in the board’s valuation rolls would be superseded by the values revised as at March 31, 1928. The board was asked to advise if it required copies of the new valuation roll. Accounts. Accounts amounting to £14,775 os 4d on the power fund and £4820 5s 9d on the loan fund were passed for payment. Loan Money. A .firm of Dunedin brokers wrote offering to negotiate a loan for the Board for £6OOO, with a currency of 20 years at 6 per cent. General. Mr. E. L, Williams, of Turua, offered his section for sale to the board.—lt was decided to ask Mr. Williams to submit a price. Certificate of Title. The Lands and Deeds Office, Auckland, forwarded the certificate

of title relative to the board’s section at Waitakaruru, being portion of Horahia-Opou No. 4b block, for amendment and returns. The matter was referred to the board’s solicitors. Report Asked For. Mr. Flatt asked that a report be brought down concerning the cost of charging for the power lines between the road and the house. He understood that there was considerable dissatisfaction among consumers.
