MIXED VIEWS.

ON DAYLIGHT SAVING. The mixed blessings and curses of daylight saving were briefly discussed by the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce at Thursday’s meeting. “ I think the Government ought to be congratulated,” said Mr. A. Gifford. “ I agree,” said Mr. McPherson. “ This chamber ought to protest against the Act being continued next year,” asserted Mr. W. T. Osborne. Mr. Ryan said the farmers were right up against it. Mr. McGregor: If the farmers are against it the whole country should be against it. Mr. Osborne: I haven’t heard one farmer express approval of the Act. Mr. White agreed that the measure was of no use to the farming community and hence to the town. Mr. A. Wyatt said the fact of the success of the Act in England should be taken into consideration. Mr. Osborne raised the question of meetings in the country. “ You cannot get the farmers to turn up to meetings until 9 o’clock, which deprives them of an hour’s sleep,” he said.

Mr. Gifford: We should consider how it affects the town. Mr. Osborne: If it affects the farmers it affects the town. \

It was proposed to argue the pros and cons of daylight saving at next meeting.
