ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
AUCKLAND COUNCIL MEETS In Putaruru. The energy and interest which is being put into matters appertaining to acclimatisation affairs by the secretary and committee of the Putaruru branch has induced the Auckland council to decide to hold a meeting in Putaruru early next month to which all local sportsmen are invited. Owing to the care which has been taken of birds liberated in this district the allocation of pheasants for the coming season for Putaruru has been increased to 50 birds. The council, however, has decided as a matter of general policy that, if more success is not met with in regard to pheasants, in future it will concentrate on raising the more hardy sporting' birds such as snipe and mallard du^k. On the representation of the Putaruru branch the council has decided to accept the offer of N.Z. Perpetual Forests Ltd. of their Putaruru foaests block of 3400 acres as a bird, sanctuary. Am
