STOCK SALES.
MORRINSVILLE. A small yarding which comprised • mostly beef and pigs was offered at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s stock sale at Morrinsville on Friday. Beef sold well, many of the lines making over recent quotations. Only; a handful of dairy cattie came forward. Springing heifers made £G to -*• tos and heuers in rank from £4 to £6. The yarding of sheep was also short. Fat lamas brought from 21s to 245. The pig market was well supplied, but, in common with other recent sales, rates were low. Stores were particularly dull, but fats came up to ruling prices. Prices are as follow: Beef.—Light prime steers, £lO 7a Cd; young light steers, £8 4s to £8 18s; prime heavy fat cows, £8 5s to £8 7s 6d; prime fat cows, £7 to £7 10s; medium weight prime cows, £6 ‘ 5s to £6 10s; good quality young fat; cows, £5 10s to £6 ss; rcugh and plain cows, £4 to £4 10s; boners, £3 5s to £3 11s; store cows, £2 10s to £3 10s; bulls, potters, £3 to £5. Pigs.—Heavy baconers, £2 7s to £2 11s; light baconers, £2 2s to £2 4s; best porkers, £1 18s to £2; lighter, £1 10s to £1 16s; good store pigs, £1 6s to £1 8s; good slips, 22s to 255; small slips, 19s to 21s; best weaners, lfis to 17s; smaller, 9s to 12s.
THE LONDON MARKET. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated January 6, advising Smithfield delivered prices at that date as follows: New Zealand Wethers and Maidens.—Canterbury quality, selected brands, old season 561 b and under 6 id, 571 bto 641 b 6gd, 651 bto 721 b sid; other brands, new season, 561 b and under 63d, 571 b to 641 b 61a, 651 b \ to 721 b 53d. New Zealand ewes, old season, 641 b and under, sd. New Zealand Lambs. Selected brands, new season, 361 b and under llid, 371 b to 421 b Hid; other brands, second quality, new season, 301 b to 321 b average, lOd. Australian Lambs. Victorian first quality, 361 b and under 9id, 371 b to 421 b 91d. Argentine Lambs.— First quality, ; 361 b and under 73d, 371 b to 421 b 71d. New Zealand Beef.— Ox fores 4d, jfr ox hinds sid, cow fores Sid, cow hinds 4d. Argentine > Chilled Beef.—Ox fores 4 Id, ox hinds 63d. Argentine Frozen Beef.—Ox fores 4d, ox hinds 55d. Frozen Pork.—Porkers, GOlb to SOlb Sd, 811 bto 991 b 7id, 1001 bto 1201 b 7d; baconers, 1211 b to 1801 b, 6£d. Lambs.—Only small quantities of new season’s lamb have arrived and are meeting good demand. Mutton Market.—Very firm; sales good. RETAIL PRICES IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its London manager, that the following retail prices are being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London on January 6, 1928: | New Zealand lamb.—Legs, lid per lb; shoulders, 13d per lb; loins, 12(1 per lb; necks, Sd per lb; breasts, 6d per lb. New Zealand Mutton (wether). Legs, lOd per lb; shoulders, 9d per lb; loins, 9d per lb; necks, 7d per lb; breasts, 3d per lb.
