POSTMASTER RETIRES.
MR. F. J. PRETSCH. Mr. F. J. Pretseh, formerly of Tirau, who has been postmaster at Putaruru for the past nine months, retires from the service this month on superannuation. Mr. Pretseh joined the postal department 35 years ago, his first appointment being at Cromwell, Central Otago. Before being promoted to postmaster Mr. Pretseh had a varied experience as telegraphist and money order clerk at Wanganui, Palmerston North, Greymouth, Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, Mataura and other places. His first appointment as postmaster was to Ohaeawai, Northland, and then followed Tirau, Opunake, Takaka and Putaruru. While at Takaka Mr. Pretseh was also registrar of electors for the Motueka district. During his thirty-five years’ service Mr. Pretseh has naturally seen many changes, the most important being of recent years, when the work of motor registration and collector for . almost any Government department has been added to post office work. Another recent addition is the work in connection with the rural credits scheme, which came into operati<jn last Sunday. Mr. Pretsch’s time is really up in June next, but through having had no sick leave throughout his term of service, and by an accumulation of holidays, he becomes entitled to five months’ leave on full pay, which commences at the end of January.
It is Mr. Presch’s intention to take a trip to Australia and England before settling down to other work.
