NEW USE FOR STRAW.

GOOD BUILDING MATERIAL. A new fireproof building material called solomite is a recent French invention. It is made of straw, and is cheap, light, durable, and soundproof. The straw is pressed into large panels nine feet long by six feet wide and two inches thick, bound together lengthwise by wires six inches apart. The heavy 1 pressure to which it is submitted and ■ the mineral content of. the straw combine to make it thor< Highly fireproof. The material has been found to be excellent for sido walls, ceilings, and [partitions, and makes a line surface for plaster, and stucco. It has been used extensively recently for summer cottages and for the soundproof booths in gramophone and radio stores.
