PUTARURU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
.MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the iPutaruru Chamber of Commerce threatened to lapse for the second 1 month running on account of no ■quorum being - present at the appointed time. Later a quorum was , secured and the meeting was attended by the following members : Messrs. J. W. Barr Brown (chairman), C. C. Neal, C. G. Alcorn, J. Simpson, G. Nickle, G. G. Griffiths and A. H. Dukeson (secretary). 1 CONGRATULATIONS. Mr. Alcorn suggested that as the j -'Town Board had come into being ! since the last meeting the congratu- j lations -of the chamber be forwarded | to that body and extended to mem- I bers present. The chairman stated he had this in I mind and thought that not only mem- j bers but the pqblic also should be | congratulated on its choice. It had , been suggested that the Town Board ; would supersede the Chamber of Commerce, but be felt this was a totally wrong outlook and that there ■ was now more need for the chamber than ever. He had much pleasure in moving that the chamber’s congratulations be extended to the board. Messrs. Neal and Griffiths replied j in suitable terms. NEW MEMBER. I Mr. F. Beca was unanimously j elected a member of the chamber on 1 the motion of Messrs. Brown and Nickle. RESIGNATIONS. I Letters were received from Messrs. J..C. Tomalin and C. D. Brown resigning from the chamber. POSTAL DELIVERY. The Chief Secretary to the Post Office, in reply to a letter from the chamber, stated that owing: to the bad state of the roads and streets, no postal delivery could be entertained at the moment. The chairman held that it was a rather ridiculous excuse, but he thought that perhaps the matter had better be dropped for a white. Tnere bad been no formal request from residents, the idea of a delivery having come from the chamber with a view to avoiding the great congestion which took place tv-ice a day at mail time. Members acquiesced to this view.

! LETTER BOXES. 1 Mr..Niekle asked if anything could !be done to secure the letter box lobby being left open till 11 p.m. He thought it would be a convenience for country members. Mr. Neal strongly supported this suggestion and also mentioned that it would be a convenience for the l lobby to be open during telephone . hours on holidays. . On the motion of Messrs. Barr Brown and Neal it was decided that the chairman and secretary interview the postmaster in regard to. > matter. t
