LIME AND MANURE.
EXPERIENCE IN THE NORTH.
One of the finest demonstrations of , what can be done on a small farmlet, | | with the aid of lime and fertilisers, j , is that to be seen on the twenty-three ! 1 acre property of Mr. Logan Morpeth, ! situated within the Kaitaia town area, j In the year 1924 Mr. Morpeth put on ! , lime at the rate of one ton and a- j ; quarter to the acre. In 1923 he top- j ■ dressed with superphosphate at the rate of three hundredweight to the' acre. This year he put on two tons j of blood and bone. One and a-half j acres of the farmlet is occupied by [ buildings, garden and orchard, but ! notwithstanding this he is now milk- j ing 19 cows, and in addition he has , a bull and six heifers. After the top- I dressing in 1924, the cream increased ! in 1925 by 733 pounds, and this year! everything points to an increase of | 1400 pounds, with only three addition- . al cows; a great demonstration of I what can be done on our land, with lime, fertiliser, brains and energy.
