NEW TURKISH PRISONS.

TO REPLACE 400 OLD ONES. An almost incredible case of cruelty to children has been brought to light by the police at Harve, where three children, aged 0,9, and 13 years respectively, were discovered in a small flat completely naked, and without even the rudimentary notions of civilisation. The flat has been inhabited for many years by a man who works as a docker and his wife, a charwoman. Local gossip had it that they had several children, but these had never been seen until a detective, acting on information received from neighbours, forced his way into the little flat, and found the three children stark naked, and in a filthy condition. When the detective and the police officers who accompanied him approached the children the latter scratched and bit like wild animals, while their mother threatened the officers with a knife. It was only after a brisk struggle that the officers were able to wrap the children in blankets and carry them off to hospital. As a result of investigations it is stated that the children have been kept naked from birth, and have never before been outside the flat in which they lived. Their father, the dockworker, is a batchelor of arts, and their mother, 1 the charwoman, a certificated teacher, both of whom are said to have fallen to their present condition through intemperance.
