BAD ROADS.
(To the Editor) Sir,—A short time ago it was' rumoured that the main road, between Leslie’s hill and the deviation, was to be metalled, and great was the rejoicing of those who are forced to use this road in wet weather. The rejoicing is at an end—we are not to have the metal yet. Perhaps the Matamata County Council are waiting for a better offer than one that was made to them recently. The N.Z.
Perpetual Forests Ltd. offered to find the lorries necessary to haul the stone from the quarry, pay the drivers and find benzine and oil. The council would be obliged to engage and pay the quarrymen, but the N.Z. Perpetual Forests Ltd. would, if necessary, find and erect tents for the quarry gang. There is possibly . some reason why this offer was refused, and it might be interesting to hear what it is. In the meantime let us plod through the potholes and; slush and pray that in the not-far-distant future we will have that coating of metal and a steam roller to roll it smooth.—l am, etc., J. PRICE.Tokoroa, 15/11/26.
