FEED FLAVOURS IN CREAM
CAN BE MINIMISED. By Care on the Farm. That the worst of the feed flavours in cream can be eliminated by exercising a little more care on the farm was a statement made by Mr. G. Alwood, recently appointed Farm Dairy Instructor at Morrinsville, Te Poi and Hinuera, in conversation with a Morrinsville Star reporter the other day. Mr. Alwood was speaking more particularly in connection with the flavour caused by clovers, a difficulty some of the Waikato dairy companies have had to contend with for some time. He said that if the farmer could prevent these flavours from developing before the cream reached the factory there would he little difficulty in making the finest grade of butter. By taking care to have the cream quickly cooled and kept cool until it reached the factory the flavours would not develop to any extent. The rest in the factory manager’s hands was a simple matter.
