FREIGHT ON MOUSSES.
AMENDMENT MADE. Matamata Chamber’s Advocacy. Further to the successful endeavour of the Matamata Chamber of Commerce, on the advocacy of the president (Mr. B. C. Taylor), the following letter was received on Monday night from the Acting-Minister of Railways (Hon. F. J. Rolleston), through Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P. for Tauranga:— “ With reference to your representations on behalf of the Matamata Chamber of Commerce regarding the railage charges on molasses, I have to advise that an amendment has now been made in the classification of this commodity, and in future, molasses, whether imported or New Zealand,., produce, for feeding stock or for use in the manufacture of stock foods will be charged class “ E.” “ I trust the alteration will be quite satisfactory to the Matamata Chamber of Commerce and that it will result in an increased demand for this commodity.” The letter was received as a very satisfactory conclusion to an effort to reduce at least one item of cost to the farmers.
