PUTARURU B.T. AND C. CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Extraordinary Enthusiasm. There was an attendance of 55 at the annual meeting’ of the Putaruru Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club in the public hall last Thursday. For the first time since the hall was built nine years ago the supper-room failed to accommodate those attending, and this is a record for any local society. Mr. S. J. Parker, chairman of committees, presided, and proceedings were marked by the utmost keenness throughout. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The report and balance-sheet showed that the finances of the club were somewhat straightened and That the utmost care would be needed during the coming season to make ends meet. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows : President, Mr. W. Yandle ; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. R. O. Loclihead, S. J. Parker, F. C. Barnett, H. J. W. Scott, H. J. Pearse, D. D. Sneddon, A. H. Dukeson senior, A. G. Leggatt, S. C. Snell, A. C. Thompson, C. G. Portas and W. C. Bond ; secretary, Mr. F. J. Christie ; chairman of committees, Mr. S. J. Parker ; management committee, Messrs. J. R. O. Lochliead, Pearse, H. Lindsey, G. G. Griffiths, J. Francis, L. Hooper, A. H. Dukeson senior, A. C. Thompson and L. J. Sole. NEW METHODS WANTED. Quite early in the evening it was evident that dissatisfaction was manifest, and some pointed speech was indulged in, the trend of which indicated that, although there was some misunderstanding, items of the constitution of the club were regarded as being cumbersome and out of date. During the election of officers the chairman caused a; sensation by stating that the old committee desired to test the feeling of the meeting before the election of the executive for the coming year was proceeded with. To obtain this he proposed to submit certain resolutions which 'would be' submitted to the ballot. The first of these, which the chairman stated he did not agree with, was to the effect

I that the bowling Section of the club have absolute control of their own affairs, including finance, and the election of their own officials from the president downwards. Mr. Francis seconded the resolution. Mr. Griffiths rose to a point of order and asked if the resolution could be taken at that stage. No answer being forthcoming, the speaker said he would test the feeling of the meetj ing by moving that the election be proceeded with. Mr. Bond supported and drew from the chairman the statement that, though he ruled the first resolution , was quite in order, he would allow the feeling of the meeting to be tested. Mr. Bond then seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously. CHAIRMAN RESIGNS. A further sensation was created by the chairman (Mr. S. J. Parker) signifying that he did not intend to seek re-election. Jt was pointed out that at an informal meeting of bowlers it was decided that, though some dissatisfaction existed, there was nothing of a personal nature in it, and to show good faith it . was unanimously resolved that Mr. Parker be nominated for the position of chairman in recognition of his great work for the club. Mr. S. C. Snell pointed out that far too much use had been made of the word “ strife.” There was -no strife at all, though the bowlers did not agree with everything that had been done. The trouble was caused by “ chattering nobodies who did nothing but merely talked at street corners.” (Laughter and applause.) Mr. Parker then intimated that he would accept office, which statement was received with great applause. For the executive no fewer than seventeen nominations were received for the nine seats, and of those elected six were bowlers. BALANCE-SHEET. On the motion of Messrs. Griffiths and Thompson it was decided that in future copies of the balance-sheet be. circulated among members at least a week before the annual general meeting. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were elected : Mr. and Mrs. R. A. O’Sullivan, Mrs. G. W. Brown, Miss Morrow, Messrs. Bailey and G. Benton. At 11 o’clock the meeting terminated with much business outstanding.
