ECONOMIC MANURING.

METHODS AND MEANS. “ Economic manuring means applying fertiliser? at the proper time and in such quantities and manner to ensure the maximum results. The soil treatment preceding the application of fertilisers should contribute towards a rise in fertility, and in order to obtain the best results from farming operations it is necessary first to ascertain what are the chief soil defects or limiting factors.” Thus the subject of “ Economic Manuring ” was introduced by Mr*. R. McGillivray, Instructor in Agriculture, in a lecture to close on fifty farmers at Morton Mains, when, with the aid of many graphic lantern illustrations, he held the rapt attention of all present for every minute of a two-hour discourse.
