IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS.

BETTER SHEDS. i Wanganui Dairymen Enthusiastic. Great improvements have recently been effected to many of the dairy milking sheds throughout the Wanganui district, farmers supporting in a very enthusiastic manner the suggestions which have been made by the dairy instructors. In the past, conditions locally have not been as' good as in some of the dairying districts, but the changes which are now being Garricd out will go a long way towards making the necessary improvement, and they are bound to be reflected in the quality of the cream sent forward to the factories. One of the principal difficulties in connection with the cream supply is the question of bad odours, and where the floors of the shed are not put down in concrete, these almost invariably arise. To every farmer who has been working under the old and somewhat insanitary conditions, a recommendation has been made to put down the floor of his shed in concrete, and in a great many cases this is being done. Many of the ,dairymen, recognising that tlieir sheds have been in use for -many years, and were not constructed in accordance with modern principles, are now erecting new sheds, and this, too, will have an effect on their supply. The splendid results achieved by local factories last season have given fresh heart to the dairymen to effect improvei ments on the farm. I Herd-testing, another valuable adjunct to the dairyman, is likely to be more strongly supported this year than ever before, the bad season which was experienced'‘last year having made dairymen recognise that it pays only to keep the good producers in their herds. With improvements that are likely to further the quality of our butter, and satisfactory conditions on the farm, the majority of the dairymen in the district arc now looking forward to a good season.
