DAIRY COMPANY CHAIRMAN.
MR. C. F. SEAWARD HONOURED. , , Farewell at Hinuera. and businesslike, standing no j nonsense, and being possessed of coni- I mercial training and acumen, as well as being a practical dairy farmer, ” Mr. C. P. Seaward filled the position of chairman of the Hinuera Cooperative Dairy Company with no mean ability. When he decided to sell his farm and leave the district the shareholders promptly arranged for the fitting expression of their appreciation of his services to the company. In this connection a social and dance was'held in the Hin- ( uera Hall, and despite the counter- i attraction of a ball at Te Poi there was a very large attendance from all | over the district. Mr. P. Corry, one of the directors of the company, expressed the feelings of suppliers and shareholders. Mr. Seaward, he said, had been a shareholder and supplier to the company since its inception, had become a director, and was in the third year of his chairmanship. The position was by no means a sinecure, for there vrere a great many things to keep an eye on, and the work involved a good deal of correspondence in the evening at times. However, Mr. Seaward had shown tact and caution, foresight and broad intelligence, and it was in no small > measure due to his exercise of these? qualities that the bank had decided to 'release the' shareholders from their joint and several within the short period of three years, a thing probably unprecedented in the history of dairy company finance in the Dominion'.. The shareholders were duly grateful. In-. Credible as it. might seem, Mrs. Seaward had also decided to leave Hinuera and go to Auckland with her husband. The residents fully appreciated her services as wife Of the chairman, and her social work in the district was too well known to need recapitulation. In handing Mr. Seaward an order for a first-class oak cabinet gramophone, Mr. Corry hoped i£ that their late chairman and Mrs. and Miss Seaward would have many pleasant and ' musical hours that would remind them of their friends in Hinuera. On behalf of the staff, the secretary of the company (Mr. W. A. E. Leonard) presented Mr. Seaward with a case of pipes in appreciation of the many good personal qualities of the
chairman. The factory manager (Mr. T. H. Robinson) supplemented Mr. Leonard's remarks. Mr. Seaward in reply made feeling acknowledgment of the kindness bestowed upon him. He also took the opportunity of explaining that the time taken up in the ■ exercise of his duties as chairman of directors accounted for-his not having been able 1 to take: an, active part in the' affairs ■of the district i generally. He had never been a chairman before, and he found the duties difficult and onerous at times.- ,He was pleased to- say that the financial affairs of the company were in a particularly good state, and he hoped the ■ shareholders would stipk i tq_ . their own company and not go changing-.over just because 'another company might pay put more for a single season. . The suppliers who stuck to the one company came Out right in the end. , He was leaving the district, with great regret and would always be pleased to see his friends frpm Hinuera. On behalf of Mrs. and Miss Seaward and himself he would like to thank them one and 'all once again for their loyalty and kindness. At a meeting of the directors on the same day Mr. J. E. West was I appointed chairman and Mr. C. Pond vice-chairman. Items were rendered at the concert by Mrs. Denton, Messrs. Bennett sen., I W. A. E. Leonard, A. E. Kernott and * Price. Music for the danoes was played by Mrs. Wade (piano) and Mr. Randrupp, (•'^iolin).
