FANCY DRESS DANCE.

RUGBY UNION EFFORT. Financial Success. On Friday a poster, fancy dress and masquerade dance in aid of the funds of the Putaruru Rugby Union was held in the Putaruru Hall, and, though tlie attendance was not quite as large as expected, the evening proved to be a financial succes:, largely owing to the generosity c" friends and supporters of the winte. game. The hall had been very tastefully decorated under the guidance of Mu. A. G. Leggatt, while the supper w;:; provided by ladies under the organisrtion of Mrs. Harwood and Mrs. C. D. Browm, the w’hole arrangements fcwing supervised fey Mr. H. H. Benne-t, w'ho also acted as M.C. There were about eighteen couples in fancy dress for the grand march, and some of the costumes, particularly the poster ones, were very striking and original. Mr. Brock acted as judge. A noticeable feature of the evening w'as the marked absence of footballers. The music was supplied by the Arapuni Orchestra, under the leadership of Mr. Clulie-Perrins, and

w'as much appreciated by all present. The prize-winners were as follow-s: Best Poster (ladies), Miss D. Hair; (gentlemen), Mr. G. Hill. Best costume Mrs. Ifw'erson and Miss C. Watkins. * ,
