WOMEN IN BURNING HOUSE.

ACROBAT’S RESCUE WORK. Two women, trapped in the early hours in a burning house at Cookham, were saved from a terrible death by the gallant rescue work of a professional acrobat, one of the well-known Moxam brothers. The fire was at the Crown Hotel, which was almost completely destroyed, damage to the extent of several thousands of pounds being caused. The proprietor of the premises, Mr Sun go r Colemau, is a relative of the famous Lord George Sanger. The outbreak was discovered by Mr Moxam, who was sleeping in one of the rooms. He was awakened by the suffocating smoke, and found that his escape down the staircase was impossible. The two women, in another room, were in similar danger. With the sheets of his bed Mr Moxam knotted a rope, which he attached to' the bed, and slid down to the roof of an outhouse. Passing along this he reached the window of the room where his sister-in-law and a Miss Austin were imprisoned by the flames, and he succeeded in bringing them to safety.
