TIRAU.
FARMERS’ UNION RALLY. v A Farmers’ Union rally was held in the Tirau Hall on Tuesday evening, when about 25 members were present. Mr. W. H. Allen, president of the Tirau branch, was in the chair. A most interesting address on “ Farmers’ Banking ” was given by Mr. P. Keegan, provincial organiser of the New Zealand Farmers’ Uqipn. Mr. N. McKay, vice-president -of . the Auckland Executive, speaking -on “ Co-operation,” also took the opportunity of congratulating Mr. Allen on his election to the directorate, of 3 the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd. Mr. Feist, president of the Waikato J branch at Hamilton, delivered an address on •“ Farmers’ Politics.” Mr. Bruce, president of .the (Jam- j bridge branch, spoke on “ Unity Aiming the Members,” and Mr. S. H. | Judd, president of the Farmers’ Union Pig Club, on “ Marketing Bacon.” * At the conclusion, Mr. W. Main moved a hearty vote of thanks to the visitors for their splendid addresses. : An adjournment was made to the sup- : per room, where an excellent repast Was provided. The football ground on the Domain was used for the first time on Saturday, and greatly pleased both players and spectators;-‘ It is a- well-turfed, level ground, with a natural grandstand along one side. It is later intended to make terraces. The annual meeting of the Tirau Tennis Club was held on Friday. Mr. J. Keane presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet, submitted by the hon. secretary, Mr. G. Wilson, showed a credit on the season’s working of £S 14s. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. J. W. Anderson; president, Mr. J. Keane; committee, Mesdames W. Craig and G. Whyte and Miss Dagg, Messrs. M. Couborough, H. Crosby, G. Whyte, F. Scherp, F. Fuller; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Wilson; auditor, Mr. E. W. Jordan; delegates to Waikato East Association, Messrs. G. Wilson and R. Jones. The subscription was raised to 25s fcr men and 15s for women. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. F. Rose for the use of his library for meetings. The question of the date of the opening of the season was left in the hands of the committee. Mr. E. Worth, Okoroire Railway, who has been an inmate of the Braeside Hospital, Matamata, suffering from appendicitis, returned home on Saturday.
