TIRAU.
A new “ player-piano ”i has been installed at the Tirau Hall. The Tirau golf links have been closed after a very short season. The late start prohibited the holding of i any competitions or inter-club matches. It was expected that the links would be open until at least the end °T August, but early lambing prevented this. A very successful concert was held in aid of the public library fund, by ■ Which the funds will be considerably augmented. In addition to local tal- ! ent, artists from Putaruru and Matamata contributed. Mr. F. Rose acted as announcer and in the course of his remarks he made reference to the good work done for the residents by the library committee and Mrs. Stewart. Mr. Rose also thanked the contributing artists, particularly mentioning Mr. P. Ingham. A young son of Mr. Withers (mechanic to the Matamata County Council) met with a nasty accident some days ago through treading on some broken glass. The cut was severe enough to nearly sever a toe and medical attention -was secured at Matamata. Mrs. J. Keane, who has been on an extended holiday through the North Island, returned last week much improved in health. An inter-club golf match was to have been played on the Okoroire links last week-end between the Putaruru and Arapuni clubs but owing to the inclement weather -the game was postponed. Mrs. A. The annual meeting of the Tirau Racing Club was held last week, when the balance-sheet submitted by the secretary, showed a credit balance of about £ls. The following officers were elected: Patrons, Messrs. H. H. Kockly and G. Stewart Reid, M.’sP.; president, Mr. J. V/. Anderson; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. Keane, Captain Holwell and' A. C. Leggatt; committee, Messrs. W. H. Allen, M. Harrison, F. Rose, T. Marshall, N. Horsecroft, H. Henderson, M. Strong, G. Wilson; treasurer, Mr. W. H. Allen; secretary, Mr. E. W. Jordan; auditor, Mr. T. Little. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on New Year’s Day, and material alteration was made to the programme, several of the races being shortened.
