VALEDICTORY.
MR. E. WRIGHT. The Putaruru Tennis Club and the Waikato East Tennis Association have suffered a distinct loss by the departure of Mr. E. Wright from Putaruru. Mr. Wright, since his sojourn in Putaruru, has been first player for the Putaruru club, and number two to Dr. Laurenson, the ex-New Zealand champion, for the representative team. As a golfer Mr. Wright has proved his ability by annexing the championship this season. By his never-failing courtesy at the bank Mr. Wright lias also been popular with the business community. On hearing that Mr. Wright had been transferred to the Te Aroha branch of the Bank of New Zealand, some of his friends organised a farewell party, which was held on Wednesday of last week. Mrs. F. Snell and Miss Alcorn acted as hostesses to some 20 guests at the latter’s residence. During the evening Mr. A. C. '-'/'Thompson presented Mr. Wright with a travelling clock on behalf of the staff of the Putaruru bank and wished the guest of the evening further and continued promotions. He said they were sorry to lose him from this branch, but that a young man must necessarily be subject to changes of location in his progress in his work. Mr. Thompson also handed to the guest of honour a tray full of parcels, being gifts from the other guests with their individual good wishes. Mr. S. J. Parker, president of the 1 Putaruru Tennis Club, also wished Mr. Wright all good luck and success from the sporting section of the comHe said that Mr. Wright r was a keen sport and a good one and had done a great deal to raise the standard of play in the clubs to which he belonged. The Tennis Club w T as particularly indebted to his efforts, and he would be greatly missed during the coming season. Mr. Parker also thanked Mr. Wright on behalf of the business community, for whom he had made banking a pleasure during his reign at the counter. Mr. Wright briefly replied to the kind wishes expressed by both speakers and thanked the guests for their gifts and good wishes. Among the guests were Miss Betty Parr, of Matamata, and Mr. W. W. Bailey, of Wellington, who suc- . ceeds Mr. Wright at the Putaruru bank. Mr. Wright left Putaruru on Friday en route to Te Aroha.
