MATAMATA TOWN ROADS.

COUNCIL AND BOARD. £IOO Compensation Offered. 1 The chairman of the Matamata Town Board wrote to the Matamata County Council at its last meeting-, pointingout that the council’s offer in writing to clo £IOO worth of repair work (£SO in cash and 50 per cent subsidy) did not coincide, in his opinion, with the verbal offer given to the deputation at the council meeting. This was to the effect that the council spend £IOO, and leave the Matamata Town Board free to collect £IOO subsidy. A correction on these lines was asked for. To this the council replied that the council’s offer was as given in their letter, and in view of this a suggestion was made that the matter be reopened. Cr. J. W. Anderson (county chairman) thought they did not quite understand the position. The matter had been dealt with by the works committee, which recommended that a sum of £IOO cash be paid to the Matamata Town Board. Cr. S. H. Judd asked if £2OO worth of damage had been done. If not, he thought the council would be gaining too much in view of the £IOO subsid,' from the Main Highways Board. On the motion of Crs. E. J. Darby and W. K. Allen, the recommendation of the works committee was adopted.
