Frying-pans should ho wiped perfectly clean with soft paper immediately after use. When polishing furniture add a little petrol to the furniture cream, and the result will be a polish that will not show finger-marks. To keej) moths array, from heavy clothing, try the effect of blotters soaked in turpentine and laid in the folds of the garments. Pieces of charcoal placed in flower vases will keep the water sweet. Match marks on a polished surface can be removed- by rubbing with a cur lemon, and then with a rag dipped in a otean water. " If a few drops of olive oil arc added to the water when washing chamois leather gloves, they will not become hard or stiff. The oil preserves the leather, and the gloves will wear longer. To remove soot from a carpet without leaving smears, cover thickly with salt, and sweep up. No trace of soot will remain. To freshen stale vegetables, soak them for an hour in cold water to which the .juice of a lemon has been added. When marking linen take a rather blunt lead pencil, write the name or initials, and follow over the pencil mark with ink. The lead prevents the ink from running.
A small hole in an enamelled basin | can be mended by pouring over it ce- | ment mixed to a fairly thick cream. To clean a frying-pan in which fish has been fried, fill it with cold water, and place on the stove to boil. When boiling, put a red-hot cinder in the water, and then wash the pan in the usual way. 1 To Freshen a Carpet v Sweep it with a broom previously dipped in salt and water. Shake the { broom well, before using it, for it is I needed damp, not wet. A Suet Hint. If suet be melted down in the oven I and put into jars, it will keep for any | length of time, and is much easier to chop up if treated in this way. Puddings will keep better if made with suet that has been melted in the oven. Patent Leather Shoes. Patent leather shoes when not in use should be rubbed with a little fresh butter to prevent cracking. Cracks may be treated by rubbing a little blacking into them, applying it rather thickly. Leave it on for a day, then rub the shoes with white furniture cream, and polish in the usual way. When Using a Mincing Machine. To fix the mincing machine firmly to the kitchen table*, it is a good plan to have a pad of glass-paper, folded rough side out-side, and fix it between the j clamp and the table before screwing up. 1 This will hold the miner securely in position.
