CHEESE PAYMENTS.
MATAMATA FACTORY. As far as can be seen at present, it would appear that the average payment to suppliers of the Matamata district (N.Z.C.D.C., Ltd), for superfine butter, will work out at Is 6.lid per lb butter-fat, after allowing for sales of the unsold butter in England on a very conservative basis. Of ! course, if there should be a material [ advance in prices, over those upon j which the estimate is based, the sup- ] pliers will reap a larger average rei turn accordingly, per medium of - bonus. I It seems that, on the whole, the 1 cheese suppliers who have marketed | on a consignment basis are not going j to come out of the transaction nearly | so well as those of the factories that ’ I made f.o.b. sales at the beginning of the season. At Matamata the payment for the season works out at Is i 5.13 d per lb butter-fat. The company | have now advised that a bonus of | 1.82 d is to be paid at an early date, I making a total payment of Is 6.95 d, less share capital deduction-. The i final payment, of course, will depend I upon the figure realised by the disposal of the unsold quantity in store and at Home. 1 The Matamata payout, however, [ does not compare favourably with , that of some of the Taranaki factor--1 ies, where f.o.b. sales were made, for > some of these are paying out up to 2 Is lOd per lb butter-fat, whereas , Matamata suppliers will Be lucky to 2 get Is 7d, unless a substantial rise - takes place in the price of cheese. 1 But taking sales over a decade the rei, suits might be reversed.
