MR. WHITLEY HONOURED.
Last Friday evening the Arapuni Hall presented a festive appearance, when the staffs of Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth Co. Ltd. and the Public Works Department assembled at an “ At Home ” given in honour of Mr. Whitley, head of the hydroelectric contracting branch. Mr. Whitley has recently arrived from England. The hall was tastefully decorated with laecopodium and greenery, while from the centre lig’ht, which was shaded with coloured streamers, were suspended numbers of red lamps. The buffet was arranged as a lounge, where those who did not wish to dance were able to play cards. With the help of the Arapuni orchestra, which excelled itself, a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mrs. Handman, wearing black silk and lace, receiyed the guests. Among others noticed -were : Mrs. Martin, black, with gold embroidery ; Mrs. Dinnie, green georgette heavily beaded ; Mrs. Rabone, flame georgette : Mrs. Hope, cyclamen lace ; Mrs. Lush grey and green crepe de chine ; Mrs. Barry, coral panne velvet ; Mrs. Scott, black crepe de chine ; Mrs. Ray, pale blue silk and lace godets : Mrs. Greenhotigh, black georgette ,* Mrs. Webb, pale blue satin ; Mrs Dean, blue sequinned satin ; Mrs. Dempster, brocacled frock : Mrs. Finlayson. primrose satin : Madam Log'’, nather blue satin : Mrs. Lindwall black ; Miss Hangman, blue beaded georgette ; Miss Moir, pale cyclamen satin.
