LOCAL AND GENERAL.
“ He said he wouldn’t mind a trip to Mount Eden at all ; the food was better there than he got at home,” said the county ranger in giving evidence in a dog license case at th§ Magistrate’s Court at Rotorua. “ Oh, well, we don’t want to hear that,” put in Mr. Orr Walker, S.M. “ I dare* say a* lot of people get better treated at Mount Eden than they do at home.” A rather striking illustration of the value of testing was noted at Mr. M. Shaw’s sale of grade Jerseys. Two cows were brought into the ring, and the auctioneer remarked that on appearances one of them would fetch a much higher price than the other. The test cards, however, disclosed that the cow of the poorer appearance was the better one by about 1001 b of butterfat for the season above what the better-looking animal produced. No wonder that Mr. A. .Crawford, of the Taihape C.D.C., calls non - testers “ downright fools.’’--Matamata Record. “'A vivid drama of the sea, about real men, whose veins run hot with* red fighting blood, men with a right and left punch in defence of honour ” —such is a description of “ Masters of Men,” to be screened in Putaruru next Saturday.*
