OKOROIRE.
VALEDICTORY. A farewell social and dance was held in the Okoroire Hall last Tuesday to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Allen and Mr. Harry Goodwin, who are leaving the district. Despite the fact that there is a considerable amount of sickness in the district there was a fairly large attendance. During the course of the evening a presentation of a cheque was made to Mr. and Mrs. Allen by Mr. Carruth, who voiced the regret of the residents of Okoroire at Mr. and Mrs. Allen’s departure. During Mr. Allen’s residence there, some 10 years, he had always taken a live interest in the school and dairy committees, also the Farmers’ Union. Mr. W. LI. Allen also spoke in a similar strain. Later in the evening a presentation of a travelling rug and bag was made to Mr. Goodwin by Mr. Gubb, who spoke of the regret in the district, especially, in the social and tennis clubs, at Mr. Goodwin’s departure. Mr. Goodwin intends to take up sheep farming in the Wanganui district. A pleasant evening was brought tc a close .with the singing of “ Aulc’ Lang Syne.”
