HOLDING BUTTER IN LONDON.

IS IT A GOOD PRACTICE ? With reference to the practice now adopted by many dairy companies of holding butter in London in anticipation of a rise in price, Mr. F. W. Seifert (chairman of directors of the Morrinsville Co-op. Dairy Co. Ltd.), at the annual meeting on Friday, said the company during the past season had held a quantity for a short period and had ultimately disposed of it at a very fair price. The company had now sold all its butter. The holding of butter, he said, was not always a good policy. It had proved all right during the past few seasons, but new there were so many companies holding butter that the market could not improve for some time. The holding costs were so high (4s per cwt for two months) that it did not pay to hold, and he considered that at the. present time it was a bad policy. They might be able to remedy the matter by regular shipments.
