XYLONITE FACTORY.

DUKE OF YORK’S VISIT. When the Duke of York paid a visit to the • British Xylonite Factory at Highhams Park, near Chingford. recently, the stores janitor demanded delivery of his matches and smoking materials. Xylonite is a form of celluloid and highly inflammable. One department of the factory is devoted to the making of combs, and it was pointed out tO' H.RJ-L that since so many girls have worn hot bed and shingled hair the demand on this department has been reduced by a million combs a year. Xylonite collars, also, W'ere turned out in huge quantities when Eton collars and Norfolk suits were in vogue for lads. Now that the fashion, has changed the demand for - that shape has almost disappeared. The i Duke of York was curious to know I what happened to the girls as the result of these changes, and whs pleased to learn that employment had found for them in other directions.
