GIANT MAMMOTH.

RELICS OF PAST AGE. A small tube and panels on exhibition in the National Museum in Washington contain some of the hair, muscular tissue, fat, and blood of a giant mammoth which died 50,000 years befor the birth of Christ. A few years ago a party of Russian explorers dug into an ice bank on the Beresovak River, in Siberia, and there unearthed the remains of an extinct animal in a remarkable state of preservation. The skin was so perfect that it was easily removed. Some of the hairs measured 30in. An analysis of the stomach contents revealed grass and flowers of tho same types which grow in north-eastern Siberia to-day.
