An interesting relic of past history has just come into the possession of that keen angler, Mr. A. E. Armstrong (says the Christchurch Press). It is the 17ft fishing rod of Sir Hercules Robinson, one-time Governor of New Zealand. The possessor has had the old drop rings removed and replaced by the latest agate ones, and he claims to have a rod equal to the best modern salmon red.
Something in the nature of a war is being waged in the petrol trade in Timaru (says the Herald) and motorists are now able to fill up at a price which is understood to be Icwer than the wholesale rate which prevails in this district. Usually users of motor spirit in Timaru, despite their proximity to the port, are required to pay a higher price for their si:pplie= than obtains in Christchurch but just at present the boot is on the other foot.
