NEW GOLD RUSH.
PROSPECTORS USE AEROPLANES The sanguine reports of gold discoveries at Red Lake, Oritaria, have created a mad rush for the district (says a “Daily Chronicle” message’ from Cobalt). For the first time in the history of mining aeroplanes are being used by those forturihte enoiigh to be able to pay for thoir: speed and convenience. Already the .province .is frenzied with the prospects of a new E'l Dorado, and nothing like it has been experienced since the Yukon discoveries. . , Although Red Lake is e-nly about, 150 miles north of the existing, rail-head, the difficulties of transportation during winter are sufficient to deter all but the most courageous. One; party with dog teams took nearly, a* week; to get there, but were able to make the return journey by air in less than a couple of hours. Othefs,’'loss' fortunate, found their machine fighting through a blinding snowstorm, being finally qqnif pellcd to drop into 7ft. of snow on the surface of the lake with a shattered propeller. Fortunately there dr'as ISin. of slush beneath the Snow; and • the landing was effected almost blindfold, but without casualties.. Another party made its way out with a clog team, and on returning found the scarcely formed track crammed with others risking everything for gold. Government agents are working night rand day registering claims made oy early arrivals, but are hopelessly behind with the work, for there are as many new claims staked as,, have yet been recorded. One well-a.uthenticat-cd report has been brought back of an offer of £20.000 for the rights of bne syndicate. Within 10 days of :the> offer beiiiig made it was increased to m,orp than double the amount, but w.as rejected.
