INTERNATIONAL ENTERTAINERS. The opening. season of “ The Optimists/’ a highly talented company of entertainers, took place at the Strand Theatre, Auckland, when they made their initial bow to New Zealand audiences. A crowded house gave them a rousing reception, and the programme presented was bright and sparkling throughout. Rounds of applause, alternated with bursts of laughter, marked the performance from beginning to end. “ The Optimists’ ” opening efforts were successful may be judg'ed by the fact that every seat in the house was booked right out before the afternoon on the second day. “ The Optimists ” will be playing a short season at the Public Hall on Tuesday, 15th, and is headed by that internationally well-known character comedian and composer, Sam Stern. Another well-known character is Veta Gilbert, Continental dramatic soprano, and pianiste, Francis Cornwall, eminent baritone, Arthur Burns, character actor and monologuist, Stan Hudson, mirth comedian and dancer, George Collins, popular baritone, Albert Carlisle silver tenor, Miss Marie Frances a charming girl in song and dance, Nancy a Baudinet, soubrette and dancer. A recent criticism of the Auckland Herald said. “ The Optimists ” entertainment is clean, clever and refreshing, and every artist in this company captured the house, and between .them keep the possession of it.”
