Co.’s railway, a large number of visitors arrived on Saturday, 22nd inst., to attend the unveling of two monuments, ijwhich the local natives have erected fat Mokai, to the memory of the welllknown chiefs, Tuere Takiwa and Paerata Titiri. The -ceremony, which was very impressive, was conducted l by Rata, of Tuwharetoa, Tokaanu, a grandson of the first Maori King, while a service in Maori was eon- ! ducted by the Rev. Father Langreth, Roman Catholic minister of Tokaanu, assisted by two Maori ministers. After the unveiling ceremony, all the visitors, both Maori and pakeha, were entertained by the’ local natives in their usual generous manner. Most of the Visitors, who arrived in Whaka busses and a great number of cars, departed | during the week-end, no doubt being j

afraid of the roads becoming impas- ! sable with, so much wet weather. I NGAURUHOE ACTIVITY. ' Unfortunately, as the district is so widely scattered, a great' amount of time is spent in travelling, and play has started late at each of the two matches pla.yed here. In the match against Morehu, played here on 15th inst., two spells of twenty minutes only could be played before darkness put an end to the game.
